With the case of Covid-19 fresh soaring, the district of Dakshina Kannada has increased testing in an effort to track contact quickly and contains the spread of the virus.
In the last 15 days (1 to 15 August), the district has done 1.3 lakh RT-PCR at an average of 9,000 tests a day, data from the Ministry of Health shows.
The district has carried out nearly 45,000 tests per million in the last 10 days.
The pioneering level of test in Dakshina Kannada is above 3%, much higher than the average state of 1%.
Officials blamed a surge in abundance of neighboring Kasaragod districts in Kerala and have increased supervision on the border.
Kasaragod has also made an average of 5,300 tests a day.
This has done 36,604 tests in the past week.
Officials in Kasaragod said the level of participants in villages adjacent to Dakshina Kannada had dramatically reduced.
“The Kerala Ministry of Health opened the test center in Talapady after Karnataka made a negative report of RT-PCR mandatory for commuters between states of Kerala,” said an official.
“This center has collected an average of 350 swabs a day.
Most of which are daily commuters from Kasaragod who work in Dakshina Kannada.
While the laboratory is carried out by 2,006 tests in one week, only 17 tested positive and the level of participants is 0.8%.” While That, UT Khader, Mangaloru Mla, said the government must provide incentives to Asha workers, who have worked hard to track infected people in the villages.
“Asha workers are burdened because they have been given a lot of tasks.
They must update Covid information on four cellular applications.
They must be given incentives to improve efficiency and tablets so that they can upload information easily.
All laboratory technicians must be given a laptop.
This will help the district effectively tracking and testing people.
