Patna: Repeating his demand for the caste census throughout the country, CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday said he would need hours and the center must reconsider his decision.
“The caste census is for the sake of the country,” he said.
The center, in a written statement in the Supreme Court recently, virtually overrides holding the caste census.
Nitish said the problem in the Apex court was not directly related to the caste census.
“This is related to the 2011 social-economic caste census,” he said.
Speaking with reporters after participating in a review meeting on the left wing extremism with the Minister of Home Amit Shah in Delhi, Nitish said Caste Census was a pro-development and it would help targeted welfare policies.
CM said the delegation of 10 political parties from Bihar had met PM Narendra Modi and explained everything to him in supporting the caste census.
For the question whether he would hold a caste census in Bihar, Nitish said he would hold a meeting of all parties in the state to decide on future actions about this issue.
“The state legislature has passed a resolution that supports the national caste census holder,” he said.
Asked whether JD (U) will continue in the government if the center refuses to hold a caste census, said Nitish, “is not the right time to talk about it.” When his attention was interested in the Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren meeting with the Minister of Home Affairs Shah on this issue, said Nitish, “this is a request from all countries.” When asked if he would go around the country and unite all parties about this problem, said Bihar CM, “this is a different subject.” Rejecting the BJP leader argument that the caste census will not be feasible because the country has thousands of their caste and sub-kastes, Nitish says it can be done by training properly about various aspects of caste and sub-casta.
“During the calculation of houses to the house, if someone tells his sub-kilt, the trained enumerator will include it with the actual caste by verifying from his neighbor.
Caste census can be done accurately by providing the right training to all personnel involved in this exercise,” Nitish said and added: “This is not the right argument that the caste census is not possible because the findings of socio-economic Caste Census-2011 are inaccurate.” Previously, on August 23, the delegation was 11 members of the Bihar led by Nitish had called PM Modi and demanding the caste census across the country along with census-2021.
This problem was revived in July this year after the Government government told Lok Sabha that it would not calculate the population based on caste, except SCS and STS.
