Coimbatore: A congressional merchant and a boy was arrested by city police on Sunday to grab 5.5 the sovereign chain of gold from a woman in Kuniyamuthur on Thursday.
Arrested was identified as B Mohammed Faizal alias, 25, and 17 children, both of them were praised from Karumbai.
Police said Mohammed Faizal was the vice president of the Congress youth.
Thursday, Dhanalakshmi, 32, the wife of Selvakumar from MS Garden, was at the grocery store in the same location.
A young man wearing facemask went to the store with the pretext of buying cigarettes and capturing 5.5 sovereign gold chains from his neck.
He escaped with his arms waiting for a bicycle near the store.
