Europe must take security threats that may arise from migration from Afghanistan more seriously, the Commissioner of UE home YLVA Johansson warns on Friday.
“In the terrorist threat from Afghanistan, I have to say that my judgment is that the warning level is not high enough.
We really need to do more,” he told reporters after a meeting with EU colleagues in Luxembourg.
Taliban takeover from Afghanistan in August brought fear in Europe from Replay 2015, when almost 1 million asylum seekers, mostly Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, fled to Europe by crossing from Turkey to Greece.
At present, the EU does not see Afghan’s large movement on its borders and the world has moral responsibility to protect Afghanistan at risk, said Johansson.
However, he urged member countries to filter and register everyone who arrived from Afghanistan.
“It’s very important for security.
And I have to say that I am quite worried about the great risk of Al Qaeda can recover again in Afghanistan,” Commissioner said.
He quoted a number of reasons that could cause Afghans to escape from their home countries.
“The situation in Afghanistan is truly terrible, there is a great risk of economic collapse, there is a great risk of hunger and humanitarian disaster,” said Johansson, added that even before the takeover of Taliban, millions of Afghan refugees have lived in Pakistan, Iran and Turkey.
Half a million people have been moved in Afghanistan in recent months, according to the United Nations, the amount to grow if health services, schools and the economy are damaged.
