Brussels: The European Union will slap sanctions on Belarus for the migrant crisis in “future days”, after the Foreign Minister Block gives their support, the Top Brussels diplomat said on Monday.
After meeting the ministers, Borrell said new sanctions would be about “quite important numbers” individuals and entities to “facilitate illegal border crossings to the EU”.
“By expanding the scope of sanctions, we will be able to target those responsible for exploiting vulnerable migrants,” Borrell said.
Diplomats said new sentences are expected to target around 30 Belarusian officials, state airlines and travel agents accused of helping to provide migrants to the border.
Thousands of Middle Eastern Migrants camped in a terrible condition in Belarusian Polish Boder, was trapped in a dangerous deadlock with Minsk.
The West accused the Belarusian Government of Strongman Alexander Lukashenko in regulating the crisis in retaliation for previous sanctions by encouraging migrants to fly to Minsk and help them to the border.
Brussels has encouraged the main transit hub like Turkey and Dubai to stop flights to Minsk to stem the migrant flow to the country.
The EU also encouraged the United Nations to step to offer assistance to men, women and children on the Belarus border.
The block has placed 166 people bound to the regime – including Lukashenko and his sons – on the blacklist because of the crackdown on the opponent since the election was disputed last year.
