Letter: The number of cases of Omicron in Gujarat rose to four with a letter reported the first case of the new Covid-19 variant on Monday.
A 42-year-old diamond businessman from the Varachha area, who has traveled to Africa, landed in New Delhi on December 4 but was tested negatively in mandatory tests.
He reached India after visiting Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
When he was tested again during the quarantine period in the city, he was found Covid-19 positive on December 8 and the sample was sent for the genome sequencing in Gandhinagar, who confirmed that he had contracted a new variant.
None of his family members or those who came in the direct contact were tested positively.
“Asymptomatic patients and he is under a tight house isolation.
He is under isolation in a private hospital after arrival,” said a health official.
Health authorities tend to shift patients to hospital after confirming the Omicron variant.
“There are no family members who are tested positive.
The patient will be tested again in two days,” said an officer.
The Health Team of Municipal Corporation’s letter has increased supervision in the area around the residence of patients in Ashwini Kumar Road in Varachha.
Previously, three people at Jamnagar, a 72-year-old man and his wife, both who had returned from Zimbabwe, had tested Omicron’s positive.
The brother-in-law who had received them in Ahmedabad was also found to be infected with this variant.
Meanwhile, two more people were tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday.
This includes a 39-year-old woman from Utran Village, who has returned from Dubai recently and a 70-year-old man from excitement that does not have a history of travel.
SMC will hold a mega vaccination drive on Tuesday to object to a lakh person in 343 centers throughout the city.
A total of 5.60 eligible for current vaccination in the city.
