Paris: The French government said on Tuesday that it would leave a plan to capture the struggle against climate change in the constitution, due to clashes with the upper senate for the words amendment.
Parliamentarians from the Party of LREM Centrist President Emmanuel Macron proposed adding that France “guarantees environmental protection and biological diversity, and combat climate change”.
Constitutional changes, have been approved by the National Low National Assembly, then set to be submitted by Macron to the national referendum.
But the Senate, where the correct Republicans have the majority, have refused to accept bills that “guarantee” efforts to fight climate change.
They passed a less constrictive version than proposed by the house down.
The second rejection by the Senate on Monday “sadly ended the process of revising the Constitution, which we continue to consider important for our country,” Prime Minister Jean Castex told the National Assembly.
The idea of ​​changing the constitution originating from the body of citizens was founded by Macron last year assigned by looking at French ways to increase his notes about combating climate change and loss of biodiversity.
