New Delhi: India on Tuesday enables electricity producers to accelerate coal imports to use up to 10% of the mixture with domestic value to meet increased power demand in circumstances that can drive high global prices.
The third largest economy in Asia faces large-scale blackouts because some power plants have low coal supplies amid a sharp surge in global energy prices.
So far the power plant that uses a little local coal imports.
The record said the supply of coal managed by India is not commensurate with a surge in electricity consumption, which leads to changes in the government’s policy on coal imports.
