Mangaluru: Economic teachers in undergraduate colleges throughout the country, have asked the government to include the economy in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
According to Economic Teachers, the Faculty of Trade and Management Committee that has been formed to implement the NEP 2020 policy, has left the economic subject, which is the basis for trade and management.
Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor P s Yadadithaya is the Chair of the Faculty of Trade and Management Committee to implement 2020 National Education Policy in the state.
Ramakrishna B M, President of the Mangalore University Economic Association, told TII that there were no single subjects about the economy found in the trade and NEP Draft management.
At present, the economy is taught in BA, BBA and BCUR courses.
“If the economy is expelled from the course, where should economic teachers, both appointed by government and college managers go? They must leave teaching and take another job,” he said.
Recently, various associations that have economic teachers in Dakshina Kannada, have submitted a memorandum to the Minister of Higher Education CN Ashwath Narayan, during his visit here, to include the subject at the NEP 2020 to come.
The association of other universities has also urged the government to enter the subject.
Ramakrishna further added that the economic teacher survey under Mangalore University was carried out recently, and a total of 96 participated colleges.
According to results, there are around 176 economic teachers who work full time in universities affiliated with MU.
“If the economy is expelled from NEP, as many as 119 teachers will lose their jobs,” he said quoting the results of the survey.
“When PU has an economic subject, why isn’t it in the undergraduate curriculum? This is a fact that it is known that the economy is the foundation for trade and management.
In such a scenario, how can someone get away from the subject, and the committee does not include economic teachers,” said a professor Economy, who wants to remain anonymous.
“We will introduce the economy at NEP 2020, and do not need to panic about it.
I have delivered it to economic teachers,” said Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor P S Yadadithaya.
