Chennai: Tamil Nadu transportation department will operate 16,768 buses from various locations in Chennai to clean the extra passenger arc during the Pongal Week.
Likewise, around 6,468 other special buses will be operated in all other districts in the state from 11 to 13 January.
A total of 11 counter ticket reservations will be opened at Koyambedu Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT), Tambaram Bus Stand Mepz and Poonamallee.
Tickets can also be ordered online at www.tnstc.in, redbus, paytm, makemytrip and busindia.
The temporary bus stand has been established in various locations in the city to avoid congestion and smooth operation of special buses.
Traffic transferring, introduced five years ago, will be followed this year too.
The bus, transporting passengers to Thanjavur and Kumbakonam through Vikravandi, Panruti will depart from the temporary bus stand setup in Tambaram.
The Poonamallee Bus Stand will be the origin of the bus bound by Hosur Bus, Arcot, Vellore, Kancheepuram and Cuddalore and Chidambaram (via Puducherry) will depart from the KK Nagar bus stop.
The bus to the AP will depart from Madhavaram.
Only the south bus will depart from CMBT.
