Thiruvananthapuram: The government has decided to establish a land acquisition unit to double the train line from Thiruvananthapuram to Kanyakumari.
The cabinet on Wednesday decided to establish two special land acquisition units headed by Tahsildars for the second phase land acquisition from Nemom to Neytattinkara and the third phase of Neytattinkara to Parassala to double the track.
Two land acquisition units will have 21 posts each in it.
The train has asked the state to accelerate and complete land acquisition for completion of doubling the railway line in the state, on March 31 next year.
The deadline is given after the train board improves the date of completion of the doubling process on March 31, 2024.
According to government documents accessed by TOI in this case, as many as 63 hectares of land (155.67 hectares) are delayed for acquisitions in various stretches which include a total length of 54 , 3 km where doubled must be resolved, and the bridge will be reconstructed.
The Railroad Council has provided sanctions needed for land acquisition, and the state government has provided administrative approval for the acquisition.
The postponement of the main land acquisition is the Thiruvananthapuram-Kanyakumari (87 km) route, where 31 km from Thiruvananthapuram until Parassala fell under the country.
As many as 40 hectares (98.84 hectares) fell in Thiruvananthapuram and Neytattinkara Taluk was waiting for the acquisition in this segment alone for the double and the destination of allies, where the train had provided Rs 50 Crore to the cost of the first phase.
The train has asked the state to complete the acquisition process at the end of the ongoing financial year.
