Bengaluru: The chairman of the Bukavaraj Minister Bommai on Monday announced that the government would take care of orphans, who had lost their parents to Covid-19.
“We will provide schools, education, clothing, food, and residence for all of these children,” said Bommai, added that surveys throughout the state would be carried out to determine their number.
CM speaks after distributing checks towards compensation given to families who lose loved ones to the virus.
In a movement that will benefit 25,601 people with direct effects, CM officially launched Covid-19 assistance funds for grieving families.
Examination for compensation of each of the Rs 1.5 lakh each must be submitted to the family below the poverty line (BPL) and each RS 50,000 for them above the poverty line (APL).
However, the BPL family was given a check only for RS 1 Lakh and officials said the remaining amount, which was paid by the center, would be provided by direct benefit transfers.
According to data accessed by TOI, the state government gave awards to 25,601 applicants, where 13,002 was included in the BPL category and 12,599 to the APL.
About 12,302 checks belonging to the BPL family have been approved and distributed.
The amount of assistance has been approved for 11,519 APL family too, Bommai said at the event was held at the National College Grounds, Basavangudi.
“Very annoying see that many families have lost my brothers, sisters, mothers, wives, fathers, and children,” CM said.
Minister of Health and Welfare of the K Sudhakar Family, Revenue Minister R Ashoka, Excise Minister K Gopalaiiah, Horticulture Minister Munirathna N and Commissioner of the Head of the Gaurta Gupta Head present at the event.
Chamarajpet Mla Bz Zameer Ahmed Khan, who was also present, asked BOMMAI to provide Rs 50,000 from state funds to the APL family such as how it was done for the BPL family.
“For the BPL family, the center gives Rs 50,000, while the state government provides other Rs 1 lakh.
Why should not give at least half of it to the APL family,” Khan asked.
Bommai said he would discuss this issue with the income department and see how much can be allocated for the APL family.
On Monday itself, around 1,000 checks are distributed to the Covid victim’s family.
To ensure everyone gets their check, Ashoka asks all the applicant’s family to talk to their respective zone officers and collect the same.
