PANAJI: Governor Pillai Pillai on Friday took two major decisions about the office and place of residence – he brought the Governor of Goa’s institution under the Rights Act on Information (RTI) and approved the construction of the new Raj Bhavan.
“I want to openly state my policy that the governor is bound to provide information to people, and the highest people.
Furthermore, the right to information (RTI) in connection with Raj Bhavan will be available to all citizens,” he said.
Pillai said even though Raj Bhavan had received a certain exception, but he had gone through a constitution before deciding to take him under the scope of RTI.
“Raj Bhavan is not the center of power, and of course they (governor) are posts that are nominated.
The ministerial headpoint is elected, he was chosen by the state community.
So, the center of power is always the government,” said Pillai.
The governor also received a state government proposal for the new Raj Bhavan and said he had gone through several objections raised when the proposal was placed in front of the previous governor’s office.
“Cm we have placed a proposal before me to Raj Bhavan as the governor’s residence (new) and to make Raj Bhavan ancient, prestigious open to the public as a monument.
I accept CM bid,” he said.
On August 1, 2020, the former Governor of Satya Pal Malik rejected the country’s proposal to build a new Raj Bhavan.
Malik wrote a strong letter to Sawant, who planned Raj Bhavan who was new, and said it was “irrational and unwise” even thought about it when the country was shaken under the acute financial crisis in the middle of a pandemic.
Malik has also clarified to Sawant that “his need for the functioning of the governor is very limited and he does not require new Raj Bhavan buildings per se”.
On July 24, Sawant, after the meeting with Secretary of the Secretary of Parimal Rai and the main head of PWD Uttam Parsekar, had told TII that PWD said it was difficult to maintain (currently) Raj Bhavan, and hence, the state government was in the process of identifying land For the new Raj Bhavan, and it will be tendered in April 2021.
