Rajkot: Delayed and less rainfall has caused serious concern for peanut farmers in the Saurashtra area because many of them looked at the failure of plants if the rainy season did not return in the next four to five days.
SauraStra is the largest producer of peanuts in this country with a harvest of almost 35 lakh to 35 lakh tons.
This particular period is very important because it is time for plants to need more water.
According to farmers, plant roots penetrate deeper into the ground and therefore the water requirements are high.
The state government has announced releasing water from dams for irrigation, but peanut farmers say it can be very late for plants.
Pravin Patodiya, a farmer in Jetpur said, “Not many farmers in Saurashtra have irrigation facilities.
They are largely dependent on the rain.
Water from the dam will take at least five days to reach us, but at that time the plant will fail.” According to the people Agricultural experts, peanut plants need maximum water 45 days after sowing.
At present, this is the second stage of growth and is needed around 90-120 days for results.
Forbid the last 20 days, peanuts need maximum water.
Last year, farmers got good returns for beans because of high demand in China and this year also expected handsome income, but the rain deficit might damage their expectations.
Samir Shah, Oil President Gujarat Edible Oil and oil seeds said, “The average per hectare result is around 400 kg, but if the rain plays skipping for the next four-five days, it will fall to around 150 kg-200 kg per acre .
This means that the overall yield will be between 15 lakh to 18 lakh tons.
“The Indonesian National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation (NAFED) bought peanuts with minimum support prices (MSP) every year and sell stocks to Million Oil this season.
Last year was extraordinary because farmers got a better price on the market than MSP.
Miller oil is currently importing peanuts to destroy from Maharashtra, Rajasthan and West Bengal.
Kishor Viradiya, President Saurashtra Mills Association (SOMA) said, “Saurashtra land is best suitable for peanuts but the majority of the cultivation is very dependent on the rainy season because there is no right irrigation network.
Seeing the current rain, we looked at the big harvest failure .
To destroy, we must depend on Maharashtra plants, South Indian and Rajasthan state.
“Groundnut was cultivated in Junagadh, Amreli, Surendangar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar and Devhbhumi Dwarka District.
