Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has initiated a boost to collect property taxes under the Self Assessment Scheme (SAS), by visiting apartments in the city, through the Association of Resident’s Welfare, said Mayor of Programand Shetty.
The visit will help MCC to update the property database in the city.
Officials visit apartments with laptops, so data can be updated, and property tax can also be collected through online payment mode.
In the event that residents cannot pay online, then a challan is produced, to help residents to make payments at the bank branch, the mayor told the media on Tuesday.
“There are more than two Lakh properties, including around 5,000 apartments in the city limits.
After the online property tax payment system was introduced on November 1, 2021, 23,000 people had paid property taxes using the online application.
The number of Rs 7 Crore in property tax has been collected since November .
At present, the database on properties in the city, is available with MCC, incomplete Online property tax will help City Corporation to renew the database on the property, along with tax collection, “said Mayor, adding that additional data entry operators will be appointed to help people pay property tax online from the MCC Office.
After an efficient online property tax payment system, the MCC will start sending an SMS alert to the registered telephone number, with a link to pay taxes, along with the amount of tax that must be paid.
To pay tax online, residents must open the www.mccpropertytax.in/public link and enter the 10 digit cellphone number to produce OTP.
The property owner must verify whether the building number, Khata number, property ID and address are in order, and provide the required details as searched for, he said.
Commissioner MCC Akshy Sridhar said the property owner must also renew the name of the tenant, along with the details of the property, if rented.
The details, including roads where this property is located, type of property – commercial, housing or non-housing – must be mentioned.
After completing the property base area, along with other details sought, the amount of tax will be produced, which can be paid through NetBanking, using a debit card, googlepay, phonepe, or bank transfer, he said.
