MySuru: Kuvempu cellular library, the city center library initiative, has come as a gift for readers, especially women, during locking.
More than 90% of new customers are women.
“About 1,000 members have been registered for our recent mobile library.
Among them, 90% are women,” said B Manjunath, Deputy Director, the City Center Library.
This mobile library has 8,000 books in its collection.
Department officials now plan to increase the number of books to 10,000.
“We issued a smart card for our customers.
Our mobile library is truly computerized with barcode facilities and scanners.
Books can be borrowed and returned with swipe.
People start showing more interest in the library during locking, when we take service to The threshold of their door.
“We covered 40 wards every week.
On each ward, we have one special parking stop, where readers can come and read and borrow books.
On a big ward, we have identified two stops.
Every day, we cover 8 stops.
At each stop, our library is parked for 40 minutes.
In a week, we discussed 48 stops, “said Manjunath.
It can be remembered that in MySuru, the cellular library was first introduced in 1980.
Stopped in 2010, and once again continued in 2016.
According to officials, cellular libraries are now enhanced with the latest infrastructure such as Audio visual facilities, computers and smart card systems.
“Another highlight of the cellular library is that we now have a collection of all the literary works of big writers including Kuvempu, Da Ra Bendre and SL Bhyrappa,” he said.
