Sambalpur: The State Government on Tuesday issued a notification to the Gutkha Manufacturing Unit in Pardhiapali in Sambalpur Regency, where 28 people suffered burns in fire which broke on Monday, to turn off the operation.
“During the unit inspection on Tuesday, it was found that the plant operated without a hydran pipe,” said a factory and boiler directorate official who was entrusted to enforce the industrial actions and rules.
Assistant Director Department, Umakanta Samantray, said factories using harmful and chemical substances should not operate without fire hydrants, which prevent the outbreak and spread fire.
“But this unit was found to operate without a fire hydrant pipe, which was a violation of the rules.
Short electrical circuits are the reason behind the accident.
However, whether there is a hydrant pipe installed in the factory, the spread of fire can have it prevented and so many workers will not be hurt, “He said.
Samantray said that during inspection, it was also found that the workers worked were closed rooms.
The police have also registered a case against the owner of Vaibabh Pandey and the management of the unit under the IPC 285 section (negligent behavior in connection with flames or flammable materials), 287 (negligent behavior in connection with the engine) 337 (causing injured by the actions that endanger humans) and 338 (Causes sad pain by acting to endanger the personal life or safety of others).
Of the 28 injured people, 11 have shifted to the Ispat General Hospital, Rourkela, Monday.
The Inspector of the Ainthapali Police Station which was responsible for Jogesh Panda said that from 11 who was injured at the High, two conditions were very important while others were stable.
