Berlin: German security officials said Thursday they had arrested a teenager suspected of planning to attack the synagogue in the western city of Hagen with explosives, the DPA news agency said.
“A teenager is detained,” said Herbert Reul, Minister in North Rhine-Westphalia, which state Hagen is located.
There are no further details available about suspects.
On Wednesday afternoon, the police had been wearing a synagogue in Hagen after receiving tips on the possibility of attacks in the building.
The threat came when the Jews were preparing Yom Kippur, the holy day in Judaism.
Following the threat, a service planned for Wednesday afternoon in the canagog canceled, DPA reported.
Police Hagen said Wednesday night that they were closely related to the Jewish community.
“People are worried,” said the police according to DPA.
Two years ago at Yom Kippur, a German right-wing extremist attacked a synagogue in the city of East Germany.
This attack was considered as one of the worst anti-Semitic attacks in the history of post-war.
The attacker repeatedly tried but failed, to force his way to the synagogue with 52 worshipers inside.
He then shot and killed a 40-year-old woman on the road outside and a 20-year-old man at the nearest kebab shop as a “appropriate target” with immigrant roots.
He posted an anti-Semitic screed before carrying out an attack on October 9, 2019, in East Germany City Halle and broadcasting the shooting directly on popular gaming sites.
