Chatra: Police officials from eight police stations in Chatra District found it difficult to save 100 Kueraleral Poppy Pods (Doda) which was restored by them in the last six months due to the lack of the right storage space in Thesu.
As a result, pods were sealed and left in 13 trucks, confiscated together, outside the police station.
Pods are used to make cutium and brown sugar.
The source said many interstate gangs were active in Chatra Egging farmers to grow Poppy plants in reply to big money.
Although the police conducted a regular raid to destroy the farm as it was based on a tip-off, it reappeared, police said.
An officer said a total of 13 trucks carrying Poppy Pod were confiscated in the past six months.
This consignment will declare such as Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, and various cities of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
“But acting on a tip, we managed to seize all of these trucks,” said an officer, adding that the total amount seized so far more than 100 quintals.
“We lacked a room at the police station to keep them until the probe was finished.
We left them in trucks seized waiting for court orders to destroy,” he said.
District administration has asked the court to give permission to destroy.
The district drug disposal committee led by SP is responsible for destroying confiscated drugs.
As per the rules, DC and SP must jointly pray in court to get permission for the job.
SP Rakesh Ranjan said, “I will see a problem about storage problems at the police station in the district,” he said.
