The Vatican City: Pope Francis on Tuesday condemned the drone attack on the residence of Prime Minister of Iraq Mustafa al-Kadhimi as a “acts of terrorism”.
Al-Kadhimi escaped not injured when three drones carrying explosives launched at his home in Baghdad on Sunday.
Some bodyguards were injured.
The Vatican said the State Secretary sent a message to the prime minister on behalf of the Pope, who visited Iraq in March.
“In condemning this terrorism, his holiness once again expressed his belief that with the highest blessings of God, the Iraqi people will be confirmed in wisdom and strength in pursuing the path of peace through the brotherhood dialogue and solidarity,” said the message.
Iraqi security officials and militia sources in Baghdad said drone attacks were carried out by at least one militia supported by Iran, a few weeks after the pro-Iran group was directed in the election they said was reduced.
