The President of the World Bank congratulated in India about a successful Covid-19 vaccination campaign

WASHINGTON: World Bank President David Malpass on Saturday congratulated India in a successful vaccination campaign against Pandemic Covid-19 when he met the Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman and thank you for the international role in India in production and distribution.
In a meeting with Sitharaman here, Malpass reaffirmed the strong commitment to international financial institutions based in Washington to India throughout the World Bank Group entity, including the International Finance Corporation and a multilateral investment investment body.
They also discussed India’s efforts regarding the actions of climate change, emphasizing the need to improve climate finances for projects impacting in line with nationally determined contributions and objectives, the World Bank said in a statement.
Malpass congratulates Sitharaman on the Covid-19 Indian vaccination campaign and thanks for the international role of India in the production and distribution of vaccines, he said.
India, the largest vaccine manufacturer in the world as a whole, suspended the exports of the Covid-19 vaccine in April to focus on its own population inoculation after a sudden surge in infection.
Last month, the health minister of the Union Mansukh Mandaviya announced that India would continue its inventory abroad.
According to the World Bank report, President Malpass also expressed his appreciation for Indian historical support for the International Development Association and reaffirming Sitharaman, the need for firmly charging IDA20.
“Malpass also praised India’s efforts on financial reform and offered a World Bank to hold a round table discussion and provide operational support,” the statement added.
In New Delhi, Mandaviya on Saturday said that India would cross the 100-crore landmark in the Covid-19 vaccine dose next week.
Until tonight, as much as “97.23 crore had been given the first dose of the Covid vaccine in the country”, he said.
The managed vaccine shows that around 70 percent of the population get at least one dose and around 30 percent of the population has got two doses, he said.
Covid-19 infection declined in India, with 15,981 new infections reported in a day, according to official data on Saturday.
It was 4 percent of the highest daily average reported on May 9 this year.
