(By S Ramesh) MySuru: Chamarajanagar District Administration has taken steps to establish a coffee and pepper processing unit.
It has provided 1acre land in BR Hills in the Taluk Yelandur for the same thing.
The decision appeared after several soligas, a tribal community mostly located in and around BR Bukar, enjoyed a good business by selling coffee and pepper planted in their land.
They sell their products under the brand name of the Adivi Coffee and Adivi.
In 2020-21, the tribes noted the turnover of Rs 1.56 Crore by selling more than 75 tons of coffee and pepper.
Moved by their success, Chamarajanagar DC M R Ravi has announced land to regulate these units to push the product.
There is a large demand for organic coffee and black pepper planted in this region in the national and international markets, and the results are sold through the coffee board and the Federation of Indian tribal cooperative marketing development (trifed).
Trifed is a national cooperative body under the administrative control of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (Government of Indonesia).
They also sell honey, bamboo products and other small forest products through these organizations.
More than 650 tribes of Sukurga from the region, which has land that has several cents into 2-3acre, has planted coffee and black pepper since 2015.
They have sold their products after forming their own bodies – associations producer of Bukit Bukit farmers.
“Coffee beans took RS 24,000 per quintal.
Pepper cultivation has helped many tribes increase their income.

The direction followed after the tribes had a business turnover of Rs 1.56 Crore in the last fiscal year.
The land survey process is in BR Hills.
DC has also given instructions to accelerate the process to provide 5acre land to establish food parks to trifed near Chamarajanagar.
DC has requested a department to popularize ‘Coffee Advi’ and Pepper brands in tourist attractions such as Bandipur, Bukit BR, MM Hill, Waterfall, and other places, he added.
