Hyderabad: The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed Telangana to withdraw its direct request for resolving the problem of the distribution of Krishna water with neighboring Andhra Pradesh.
Telangana has asked permission to attract last year’s petition.
Now, the ball is in the Ministry of Jal Shakti court, Telangana officials said.
“It’s a good start to overcome the problem of distributing the Krishna River .
Telangana pulled the case after a guarantee of the Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to look at the ranks, said Rajat Kumar, added that the ministry even referred legal issues.
Interestingly, Maharashtra and Karnataka temporarily opposed the withdrawal of cases by Telangana, wanted SC to hear their argument, received by the court on Wednesday.
“Unfortunately, the AP is against the withdrawal of our petition,” said Rajat Kumar.
Telangana has submitted this case in 2015 looking for directions to the water redistribution center under the River Water Dispute Act (ISRWD) in 1956.
A senior irrigation official said water allocation could not be done with part 89 of AP reorganization.
ACT, 2014, because it only has a reference frame to make a project-wise allocation of a total of 811 TMCFT from Air Krishna.
“It doesn’t talk about water redistribution to the country.
Second, the AP has shifted water to the project located outside the Basin Krishna,” the official said.
The Telangana government has debated that Air Krishna must be redistributed between the two states in Part 3 of the ISRWD Act.
It is said that a new court must be formed or referred to by referring to the existing KWDT-II, accusing that existing water allocation is gross injustice for the country.
Telangana has also alleged that the AP has transferred water outside the Krishna River basin by building a new irrigation project.
For now, Telangana gets 299 TMCFT from 811 TMCFT.
Share the AP is 512 TMCFT.
Telangana has claimed that it must get at least 565 TMCFT.
This problem arose during the second APEX council meeting held in October last year which was attended by Shekhawat and CMS Telangana and AP, K Chandrasekhar Rao and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
