Prayagraj: Although Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar is no longer but his life, struggle, and talent will continue to inspire the generation to come including students of the Music Department and Performing Arts of the University of Allahabad.
The department has proposed to teach his students Lata Mangeshkar’s life as one of the units in a five-year integrated course, introduced under new education police, for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
His name has been included along with other icons from the world of country music such as Joshi Bhimsen, Allaharakha Khan, Bismillah Khan, PT Jasraj etc.
Units based on regional veteran singers will be implemented after obtaining official AU Academic Council (AC) and Executive Board (EC).
The sources informed that at this time was the curriculum, taught to UG students and PG taught about several famous Indian musicians but at the same time, the same as important as Western colleagues as well.
However, following the instructions of new education policies, there was a boost to provide knowledge of Indian artists both in the field of vocal and instrumental music.
Going with instructions, amendments proposed by the department where a separate unit will be dedicated to the leading personality of Indian music.
Referred to as’ sketch of leading musician life, the unit will teach students about the lives of leading musicians including Lata Mangeshkar, Bhimsen Joshi, Ravi Shankar etc.
The artist, who, apart from their extensive talent, remains unwittingly but their students get fame and monopolize the center of attention.
Names like Ramashrey Jha, Teachers from the famous classical singer Shubha Mudgal (which is associated with the AU Department of Music), Bolanath Bhatt, Ball Nath Prasana and Rajendra Prasana, famous flute players of the day of Prasad Chaurasia etc.
All will be part of the revised curriculum.
After the round approval of the AC and EC, the department students will be taught about this leading personality of the 2022-23 academic session including the Mangeshkar Lata which will be part of their curriculum.
“The proposal to include the Lata Mangeshkar in the curriculum has been prepared.
The curriculum has also been designed.
The five-year integrated course will begin with the 2022-23 session after obtaining AC and EC approval”, said the department head, Prof.
Vidyadhar Prasad Mishra.
