Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday told the Minister of Foreign Affairs to expel the 10th ambassador of the country, including Germany and the United States, who appealed the release of a civil society leader who was imprisoned.
“I have ordered our foreign minister to declare this 10 ambassadors as a non-grata persona as soon as possible,” he said, referring to the term used in diplomacy which signaled the first step before expulsion.
He did not set a strong date.
“They must know and understand Turkey,” he added, accusing the messenger of “disenonity”.
“They have to go here today no longer know Turkey,” he said about the ambassadors.
Messenger issued a very unusual joint statement on Monday that said the continuous detention of philanthropics and Paris-born activist Osman Kavala “threw a shadow” over Turkey.
US, Germany, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway and Sweden called for “only fast and fast resolution for the case (cavala)”.
Kavala has been in a without confidence in prison since 2017, and faces a series of alleged allegations related to the 2013 anti-government protest and a failed military coup in 2016.
He has become a symbol of the crackdown that sweeps Erdogan released after undergoing a coup attempt.
Speaking to AFP from prison cells last week, Kavala said he felt like an Effort to Erdogan to blame foreign plots for domestic opposition to his government which was almost two decades.
The European Council, the top human rights supervision of the continent, has issued a final warning to Turkey to comply with the 2019 European European Court to release the trial pending by Kavala.
If Turkey fails to do it with the next meeting on November 30-December 2, the Strasbourg Council can choose to launch its first disciplinary process against Ankara.
