Mangaluru: Pompei College, in Aikala, about 30 km from the city, has said that students must come to college in the specified uniform.
It comes after pictures and videos from the part of the student who wears a turmeric scarf on the campus to be a viral on Wednesday.
PurushothaMa KV, Principal, said that at the coordination committee meeting on Thursday, it was decided that the hijab (hijab) or Safron shawl would be permitted on the next campus.
The meeting was attended by the second leaders of the community (representatives of the Mosque Committee and BJP leaders), old students, members of the leadership council, representatives from the Joint Director’s Office, Police Department and Panchayat.
The decision of the government council that was fulfilled early on that day was submitted to members.
Those who attended the meeting agreed with the College’s decision that only prescribed the uniform that would be permitted.
The principal said that Muslim students have been wearing a hijab in class five years, and no one raised the problem.
However, on Tuesday around 34 students came with a turmeric scarf wrapped in their neck, without sending a note or request to the principal or management.
“When I asked them whether there were specific reasons for them to come shawls, as if they went to Sabarimala, they said that if Muslim students will come with a headscarf, they will come in a saffron scarf,” he said.
After this, the emergency meeting of the Leadership Council was held, and then the meeting of stakeholders.
Local organizations are reported to support students.
A Bajrang Dal leader allegedly warned college that Hindus must be allowed to wear a turmeric scarf, if Muslims are allowed to wear a headscarf.
Classes are done as usual with parts of students wearing a turmeric scarf and Muslim girl headscarves.
College has around 335 students.
Similar incidents reported in Chikkamagaluru after a piece of students in a bachelor’s degree in KPPA came to the campus wearing Syning Safron on Monday.
On December 31, the PU College government for girls in Udupi was a witness of the same controversy after six PU students, supported by the campus in front of India, accused the principal of not letting them wear hijabs in the classroom.
They argue that when students from other religions are allowed to wear Bindi and Bangles, why can’t they wear a headscarf.
