Mangaluru: With Afghanistan in chaos, there is no clarity in connection with the arrival of Afghan students who have registered for Bachelor, Postgraduate and PhD in Mangaluru University (MU) this academic year.
University officials said their arrival to campus was uncertain, because of the ongoing crisis.
MU Vice-Chancellor P S Yadapadithaya said this academic year, 350 applications received from Afghanistan.
From them, MU has completed 156 applications.
From them, 31 students will be undergraduate students, 111 graduate and 14 doctoral students.
“We are not sure whether they will be able to get to campus on time.
Even if they do it, maybe late,” Yadadithithaya said.
The source in knowing the acceptance of Afghan students, said their arrival would be difficult, considering the current situation.
“With the Taliban against education, studies at foreign universities may not be large, especially in India.
We have to wait and watch,” added the source.
The source also said that students from Afghanistan will study under the Indian Council Program for Cultural Relations (ICCR).
Seven-hundred candidates from Afghanistan have been applied to study at MU, when opening the door for foreign students in the 2014-15 academic year.
This figure is a high thing throughout Afghanistan.
Besides Afghanistan, MU also has students from 35 other countries, including Ethiopia, Iraq and Yemen.
They learn under self financial mode.
MU also build separate hostels for foreign students.
