Kolkata: The head of the Minister of Mamata Banerjee on Monday made him hard and clear that his government would not obtain the land “forcefully” to establish a second airport in Kolkata.
“We will not forcibly get 1,000 hectares to establish airports.
That means moving the row of buildings and driving settlements,” CM said at Kolkata airport on Monday before leaving for Lucknow.
Banerjee responded to the comments of civilian minister Union Jyotiraditya Scindia the day before that the center had planned the second kolkata airport but could not implement a plan because Bengal did not provide land for it.
CM said the government had arranged land for third taxis at Kolkata Airport to overcome growing air traffic.
“We have arranged for the third runway at Kolkata airport.
We have established airports in Andal.
Airports in the district are also available.
Let them arrange more flights there,” he said.
Scindia said on Sunday she had been looking for dialogue with Bengal CM for the past six months because the existing Kolkata airport runs at maximum capacity.
The second terminal was proposed within 30 km of Kolkata Airport.
The state government has also conducted a survey and chose Bhangar in 24 South Parts, adjacent to Rajarhat, as a possible site.
However, the problem arises when parts of Bhangar have undergone rapid urbanization, requires a great displacement to acquire land there.
The government has in 2017 facing rigid resistance from the local residents while giving road rights to the Bhangar Power Grid project.
Banerjee also wants to absorb all Indian water employees after changing hands.
“I have no problem with Tatas.
I just want existing Indian water employees not affected by changes,” he said.
CM went to Lucknow at the invitation of the Jamajwadi party to hold a press conference along with Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday in front of the election in Uttar Pradesh.
He will also visit the Varanasi Constitution of PM Narendra Modi later this month.
