New Delhi: Head of Aimim Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday said his vehicle was shot near Chhajarsi Toll Plaza at Uttar Pradesh when he returned to Delhi from an election event in Meerut.
He had been seeking an independent investigation into the incident and said he would write to the Election Commission.
“I asked the Election Commission to order an independent investigation into this shooting incident.
It is the responsibility of the government and the mod to conduct an independent investigation.
I will also meet with Lok Sabha’s speakers in this matter,” The Lok Sabha MP said, after reaching Delhi.
One person was arrested, who was detained again from two hours after the incident, the police supervisor (Hapur) said that one person had been arrested.
“He was questioned, and the weapon recovered from him.
His speech managed to escape, search operations were ongoing for him.
We will update when more facts arise.
There is no one injured so far.
We are checking CCTV recording.” Praveen Kumar, IG Range, Meerut, confirmed the arrest and said that the shooting site had been examined and that the investigation “would be taken to the logical end”.
Other people were detained a few hours later.
Police officials said that the interrogation of the attackers (one arrested, the other detained) was underway.
The defendant allegedly told the police that they took action after being hurt by Owafi’s anti-Hindu statement.
