New Delhi: Because of the increase in Covid cases among prison staff and prisoners, the prison authorities have again stopped the physical initial (meeting) from this Monday.
Until now, 19 people in the city prison have been tested positively.
Director General (Prison) Sandeep Goel said they returned to the rules applied during the previous Covid waves.
As on Wednesday, 11 inmates – eight in Tihar and three in Mandoli prison – and eight staff in Tihar have been tested positively.
Some steps have been put in place to curb the spread of the virus in prison.
“All new prisoners will undergo compulsory quarantine and rat tests.
Isolation of all prisoners shows their symptoms and testing according to the ICMR guidelines will be carried out,” Goel said.
Thermal playback of all officials who entered the venue and broad-search contacts were carried out, he added.
The movement of prisoners has also been restricted.
Prison hospitals and dispensaries have been designated as a Covid health center along with medical isolation cells in each prison.
The doctor has been deployed all the time.
In Tihar, the oxygen plant has been established by the Ministry of Health and will soon be functional.
So far, 15,452 inmates have been given the first dose and 7,168 second dose.
All staff have been vaccinated.
