Chennai: The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has stated holiday for school on October 16 (Saturday) as requested by the teacher’s association.
After being reopened for class IX to XII, the school functions six days a week, including Saturday.
With the state government stating 14 and 15 October Ayudha Puja and vacation Vijaya Dashami, many teacher associations want the department to declare Saturday as a holiday to allow the teachers to travel to their hometown.
“After considering their demands, given the interest of teachers and students, October 16 has been declared as a holiday for school,” said School Education Commissioner K Nanthakumar in a round released on Wednesday.
