Mangaluru: Increased demand for udupi sari has inspired women to experiment with them.
Udupi Sarees, was woven by hand by Dakshina Kannada craftsmen and Udupi had embraced Embroidery Aari Kashmir.
About three years ago, the revival campaign of Udupi Sari was launched by Kadike Trust in conjunction with the Talipady Weavers Society (TWS).
Loretta Pinto, Co-Founder, Susheg Charital Trust, got Kashmir embroidery, Manzoor Ahmad and Yasmeen and created a unique designer work.
Loretta told Stoi, “It’s been a year since I got to know Mamatha Rai, President, Kadike Trust and visit the TaliPady Weavers Society.
I have seen the extraordinary works they have done for the resurrection of Saris Udupi who has grown into the current brand.
I relate to Sanju who sells Kashmir and Crafts through the regalquest Facebook page – Kashmir’s essence.
One day, during a relaxed conversation I asked him if he could do something and when we chatted, we decided to try Kashmiri embroidery at Udupi Sarees.
I asked him to send some designs And back to Mamatha to check whether it will succeed.
He suggested that we try it with 60 saree counts and before we can realize, working at 10 Saris finished and in three days, we managed to sell seven of them, “he said.
Loretta plans to give more udupi sari touch Kashmiri and in this way, craftsmen from both countries benefit.
The design is not replicated, he said.
“This initiative provides many additional values to Udupi Sari – brands that have grown in the last three years beyond our expectations,” said Mamatha Rai.
At present, 70 weavers are employed in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi and in the talipady themselves from eight weavers, the number increases to 35, “he added.
