Lucknow: The Yogi Aditentalath Government on Thursday announced a 50% reduction in the tariff of power on agricultural use, in a state that could increase BJP farmer outreach ahead of the state poll.
This step will immediately benefit more than 13 lakh users in rural and semi-rural areas.
Orders, announced by CM offices through tweets, dividing consumers targeted into four categories – pumps and energy-saving farmers that are meters, in urban areas that receive meter power supply.
On meter connections for pumps in rural areas, farmers must pay only Re 1 per unit instead of RS 2 per unit.
The fixed fee of Rs 70 per horsepower (HP) also decreases to Rs 35 per cellphone.
Likewise, if the connection is not measurable, the cost remains reduced from Rs 170 per cellphone to RS 85 per cellphone.
For energy-saving pumps, the electricity level has been reduced from Rs 1.6 to 83 Paise per unit.
Fixed costs, too, have been cut from Rs 70 per cellphone to RS 35 per cellphone.
In terms of farmers who receive a meter power supply in urban areas, the electricity level has been reduced from Rs 6 per unit to Rs 3 per unit.
Fixed costs are also reduced from RS 130 to Rs 65 per cellphone.
The CM office said the decision had been taken to see the “comfort and prosperity” of farmers.
SOP will immediately apply, a government spokesman said.
