Coimbatore: Traders have penetrated the pedestrian path at Dr.
Nanjappa Road, forcing the general public to use the carriage way, where they face the threat of a fast-moving vehicle.
Important commercial hubs are famous for water pumps, stretching attracts several hundred buyers a day from various places in the district, other districts in the state and neighboring countries.
Road users say stretch between Jalan Avinashi and Junction Park Gate Gate are always jammed.
Traders have displayed their products on the path to attract customers, leaving a little room for pedestrians, said road users.
While the road, which comes with a median, is wide enough, parking on both parties often leads to LEGRIP SNARLS on a stretch.
And pedestrians have no choice but to negotiate a busy road.
S Vijyalaksi, a pedestrian, said they did not feel safe to walk in the carriage.
“We have to walk with a constant fear of being exposed to a vehicle.
I feel insecure every time you walk on the road.” V Senthilvel, a commuter from Avarampalayam, said pedestrians in the carriage were also a threat to them.
“They also prevented the movement of the vehicle.
By managing parking on both sides of the road, the authorities can make more space for the vehicle.
Double parking is a common view in stretching.” Activists, meanwhile, urged City Corporation to take decisive action against illegal parking and Envance of pedestrian pathways on stretches.
They said while the vendors were expelled from Dr.
Nanjappa Road recently, the corporation did nothing to streamline traders.
When contacted, a corporate official said they would travel to the pedestrian path that freed traders.
“We have received similar complaints about other commercial areas.
We will take strict action on the merchant.”
