Thiruvananthapuram: Education Minister V Sivankutty will inaugurate a training session on diabetes held for school teachers by P Kesavadev Trust.
This training session has become a regular feature since 2007 which is usually organized in November.
However, this time it was decided to arrange a training session on September 27 after the government’s decision to reopen schools after a pandemic.
In post-pandemic situations, children are faced with severe threats from the situation of diabetes.
There is a threat of type 1 and type 2 diabetes among children who have recovered from Covid.
Therefore there is a need for teachers to be educated in this matter, said Dr.
JyotideV Kesavadev.
During the post-covid period, research has proven that the level of diabetes among children has increased rapidly.
Therefore such children will need medical attention immediately.
They may even need four injections a day or test blood for at least six to eight times a day.
Therefore these children need the right attention throughout the day.
When schools reopen these children will spend more time in schools, he said.
There is a need for at least two teachers from every school to be trained on how to attend such children who suffer from diabetes.
The teachers must be made aware of changes that children will display at school when sugar levels run high.
These children must be tested using glucometer, giving them snacks at frequent intervals, urinating, behavioral changes, etc.
