Vadodara: For the first time, a Barodian athlete will have the opportunity to represent the country in Triathlon in the Asian Games and also the Commonwealth Games.
Riddhi Kadam from the city has been chosen for trials in Chennai for this prestigious sporting event.
Kadam (22) began practicing Triathlon in 2019 and in several years won victory at the national level.
He stood third and secondly at the national level in Chennna and Dhanushkoti.
Kadam said that it was his appearance in a national event which made him a place in camps to choose Commonwealth games and Asian Games forces.
Two prestigious events will have triathlon for women in individual format and relay “I used to swim too.
When my coach Krishna Pandya knows this, he suggested that I take Triathlon,” said Kadam, adding that the sport was very demanding.
“This involves this.” 1,500 m swimming, cycling 40 km and 10km.
Someone can give up very easily if someone is not tough, “said Kadam who trained every day and almost every day ensured that he practiced the three triathlon disciplines.
Because of his own school days, Kadam was driven by his father, a retired army, to participate in sports.
“He insisted I had to take sports and that was my interest,” said the former student of High School Baroda, ONGC.
Kadam then pursues a BCON from M University and now wants to register for a master’s degree.
Vadodara’s senior coach Jayesh Bhalawala said that it was for the first time that a female athlete from Vadodara had the opportunity to reach this level in Triathlon.
He said that women’s athletes from the country, however, had a previous chance.
