Islamabad: Pakistan Taliban, known as TTP or Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, the security forces targeted in vehicles traveling near the Afghan border on Saturday, killing four soldiers, a police officer said, the military said.
In his statement, the military said the attack took place in the area of Spinwam Waziristan Utara, and that operations were underway to attack the militants.
The group claims responsibility in a statement, saying it has ambushed the “Raiding Party” in the area.
TTP operates in the tribal belt bordering Afghanistan.
About 6,000 TTP terrorists are said to have a sanctuary in East Afghanistan and the West, besides the border with Pakistan.
The attack came even when TTP announced a three-week ceasefire on Friday.
PM Imran Khan said his government was in talks with terrorist clothing in the reconciliation process.
Islamabad talks with TTP, conglomerates of some Pakistani terrorist clothes, have been facilitated by the Taliban in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, a report in Pakistan today quoted a TTP spokesman Muhammad Khurasani said that militant clothes did not seek a peace agreement with Pakistan.
“Teheepaek-i-Taliban Pakistan has never announced a ceasefire,” said Khurasani in a statement, according to Pakistan’s report.
“TTP fighters must continue their attack wherever they are,” the statement added, increasing doubts on the ceasefire call.
He also described TTP as “organized movement” with “no fiscal or faction in the group”.
