Chennai: Actor Siddharth, who landed in controversy to his tweet against Badminton Player Saina Nehwal, appeared before the central crime branch of Police Chennai on a video call and told the police that he had submitted an apology to people.
“This actor works with investigative officers during the investigation and the process is recorded for further evaluation,” said an officer.
If needed, the police will call the actor for further questions.
Last month, Police Commissioner Chennai Shankar Jiwal confirmed that the two complaints had been accepted against the actor after he responded to Saina Nehwal’s tweet in the security violations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Punjab.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) took Suo Motu’s awareness of Siddharth’s tweet.
Chairman of Rekharh Sharma Complaints to Director General of Police C Sylendra Babu attached Tweet Siddharth.
NCW has searched for police intervention and appropriate actions in accordance with the legal provisions to hold it from making such statements in the future.
The central crime branch recorded a case and called Siddharth.
The Hyderabad police cyberprime wing has also registered a case against Siddharth for his controversial tweet.
