Rajkot: Two construction workers died and someone was injured after a slab, which they tried to destroy, fell on them at Jivraj Park in the city Thursday morning.
Workers – Raju Sagathiya (35), Shivanand Chauuh (24) and Suraj Sejariram (24) – Work on the fifth floor of the Blossom city building near the Ambica Township at around 10:30 a.m.
on Thursday.
The contractor has assigned them the task to destroy the sixth floor slab.
During the demolition work, the sixth plate and the fifth floor gave up.
Sagathiya and Chauhan died in a place while Sejariram suffered severe injuries.
Police said that workers were not given safety equipment and they were trained to do the work.
“Until now we have registered an accidental case of death.
But if we find evidence that a violation might be registered later,” said a police officer.
Prashant Pachani contractor escaped, police said.
Building renovation work lasts for a month now, but Chauhan, native of Bihar, and Sejariram, who came from Uttar Pradesh, had joined the work on Wednesday.
