Jaipur: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested two Junior engineers, who were in deputation on the wing of the assessment of the income tax department in the city, for allegedly accepting 1.5 lakh rs bribes at the Income Tax Office in Malviya Nagar.
While one of them was arrested while accepting bribes, the other escaped from the scene and locked himself in a house in the colony.
He was arrested late at night.
Bribery is required to underestimate the complainant assets to reduce their income tax.
Senior ACB officers declared the two engineers to join CPWD in 2018.
“both of them came to the Income Tax Department for representatives only two years after joining CPWD,” said Soni.
ACB Director General Bl Soni told TII, “a complainant came to us and said the defendant was identified as Pankaj Kumar Chaudhary and Divya Prakash Meena, both Junior engineers worked with the wing assessment of the income tax department in Jaipur in Deputy Works Department (CPWD), demanding Bribe Rs 3 Lakh from him.
Bribery is required to underestimate one of the complainant assets so he may have to pay only lower income tax.
“Based on complaints, verification was carried out by the ACB team.
“After complaints were verified, our team, led by SPP Narottam Verma Additional, was trapped by Pankaj Kumar for accepting RS 1.5 lakh bribes at the Income Tax Office.
Another accusation, Divya Prakash, managed to escape from the scene,” he added.
The ACB team chased Prakash who had locked himself at his home in the Income Tax Colony.
“We continued to ask him to come out.
He locked himself for almost two hours, but then came out and arrested,” said SPS Narrotam added Verma, who led the operation.
ACB officials said that both of them will initially appreciate the assets of high assessions and then approach them by appointment to underestimate the same thing.
“For the undervaluation, they ask for bribes,” he said.
