Ghaziabad: Two people were arrested for allegedly selling stolen phones.
Police said the defendant run a small cellular repair shop in Ghaziabad and bought a stolen cellphone at a low price from thieves which were then sold at higher prices.
According to the police, the defendant was identified as Shahzad and Anil Kumar, both of them came from Ghaziabad.
Nipurn Aggarwal, SP (City-1) said that after a sudden burst in cases of robbery and mobile robbery in the city, a special team was formed to overcome this problem.
“One police officer (posing as a customer) has met with the defendant with the pretext of buying a telephone.
After that the attack at Shahzad’s house first and then the police arrested the annealing,” he added.
A senior police officer said that during the interrogation, the Duo told the police that they had received the stolen gadget from several thieves (the police did not reveal their name).
They also revealed that they used to buy an Android phone for RS 3,000-RS 7,000 according to the brand while Rs 15,000 was searched for iOS phones.
“They somehow changed the number of IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) of a stolen cellphone.
Changing the IMEI number makes their business easier because then the cellphone becomes unable to be tracked,” he added.
Allegations were booked at Sihani Gate Police Station under Section 414 (assisted in the stolen property hiding) IPC.
The defendant was sent to the trial detention after producing it at Fort of the Haktrate.
