Bhubaneswar: The first online edition of the Dansa Udayraga series, launched by the famous Danseuse Aruna Mohanty on July 10 last year, concluded this weekend.
But this is not the end.
Aruna said this series will be launched in a new format next year.
“I decided to launch this series because many dance programs were being held online.
I have not decided on the date and innovation to introduce,” said Densuse.
“Dancers of Udayports are paid while most online platforms do not pay them,” he added.
This series has provided an online platform for Odissi dancers the opportunity to show off their talents and take their recital to the living room of the connoisseur with no stage performances permitted during a pandemic.
So far 80 episodes have been uploaded to Facebook pages, Twitter channels and YouTube channels from the Dance Odisha Academy showing 112 participants (with several episodes that have two solo participants).
The series began as a weekly show was carried out two weekly when the Indo-American association, Houston, approached Aruna to enter more artists.
Thus, Manipuri, Kuchipudi, Mohiniadtam, Kathak and Bharatatyam performances were included.
The selected dancer is used to send videos recorded from their appearance with other dancers to pack the show.
Dancer Odissi Subham Kumar Ojha, who appeared in the second episode, said this series gave dancers reasons to practice because they were locked up in their homes during a pandemic.
“The biggest advantage is that we paid for Udayaraga while other online platforms do not pay us,” he said.
Other Odissi dancers Srepunya Mohanty said the experience was extraordinary.
“I know many new artists and their techniques because other dance forms are also included in this series,” said Srepunya, who also hosted the show and guided viewers on different compositions.
Dancers learn new processes through series and their jobs are stored for grandchildren.
