US Capable of 'Tamping Down' Potential Invasion of China to Taiwan: Deputy Secretary of Defense

WASHINGTON: The United States is able to “Tamping” Chinese potential invasion to Taiwan, said Deputy Secretary of the State Defense Kathleen Hicks on Friday.
Speaking in the online forum held by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), one of the US main policy research groups, Hicks also reaffirms US commitment to strengthen Taiwan’s self-defense capabilities, Focus Taiwan reported.
Asked to comment on the potential invasion by China Taiwan, Hicks said the US had watched the situation in the region very carefully “day to day”.
“We have a large number of advanced abilities in this region to reduce such potential,” Hicks said.
“We have a good relationship, of course, with Taiwan.
We have a commitment to Taiwan which is eternal since the 1970s.” Hicks said the main problem was that the US helped Taiwan to raise the ability of self-defense to potential invasion by China.
“It is very important.
Taiwanese, their ability to defend themselves effectively, is the game-changer in the case of preventing calculus for China,” Hicks said.
Since mid-September last year, Beijing has increased the tactics of gray zone by regularly sending planes to Adiz Taiwan, with most examples occurring in the southwest corner of the zone and usually consists of one to three slow flying turboprop aircraft.
Beijing claims full sovereignty over Taiwan, democracy from nearly 24 million people is located on the southeast coast of mainland China, despite the fact that both parties have been ruled separately for more than seven decades.
Taipei, on the other hand, has replied to Chinese aggression by increasing strategic relationships with democracy including the US, which has been repeatedly opposed by Beijing.
China has threatened that “Taiwan’s independence” means war.
On June 1, China’s President XI Jinping promised to complete the reunion with Taiwanese own ruled and vowed to destroy formal independence efforts for the island.
