Washington: United States on Wednesday condemned the shooting of North Korea from the alleged ballistic missile and urged Pyongyang to sit for the conversation.
“This launch violates several UN Security Council resolutions and pursues a threat to neighbors of the DPRK and the international community,” said a Foreign Ministry spokesman, referring to the North with his official name, the Republic of the Korean Democratic People.
“We remain committed to diplomatic approaches to the DPRK and call them to be involved in dialogue,” he said.
A spokesman also said that the US commitment to defend South Korea and Japan, two allies bound by the agreement, was “Ironflad.” US Secretary Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will meet virtually Thursday for regular security talks with their Japanese colleagues.
They will join a new US Ambassador to Tokyo, Rahm Emanuel, former Mayor of Chicago who was confirmed by the Senate despite the opposition.
President Joe Biden’s administration has repeatedly said it is open to speaking with North Korea, which has pursued a series of most low-level projectiles.
North Korean leader Kim Jong UN held three high profile meetings with the predecessor of Biden Donald Trump but unusual personal diplomacy did not bring the eternal agreement.
The South Korean military said the North fired what was “considered a ballistic missile” towards the east sea of the Peninsula from the Jawan Province, which borders China.
