WASHINGTON: Educators announce plans to improve security in response to warning Tiktok posts from shootings and bomb threats in schools throughout Friday as officials convincing parents, the viral pole is not considered credible.
The threat of anonymous social media has many educators on the edge, when they circulated after a deadly school shooting in Michigan, which has been followed by the threat of copycat to schools elsewhere.
Schools in countries including Arizona, Connecticut, Illinois and Montana said Thursday there would be an increase in police presence due to threats.
At least one school district at Kaufman, Texas, announced a plan to close the middle school for that day in response.
Online-circulating post warns that some schools will receive shooting threats and bombs.
“We write to tell you and don’t worry you,” Oak Park and River Forest, Illinois, said the school administrator in email to parents.
“We have known the national virus Tiktok trends about school shooting and bomb threats for each school at the USA even elementary on Friday, December 17.” Administrator said the local police department will increase their presence around the school “because of caution.” In a statement on Twitter, Tiktok said it worked with law enforcement to be investigated.
“We handle even the most reported threats with the maximum seriousness,” said the statement, “which is why we work with law enforcement to see warnings about potential violence in schools even though we have not found evidence of the threat that originates or spreads through tiktok.
“Post follow a disturbing trend that has made students in action in response to social media challenges.
In September, students throughout the US posted a video about themselves recording the school bathroom and stealing soap dispensers as part of the challenge of “cunning pejan”.
In October, students were challenged to slap a teacher, encourage the National Education Association to ask Facebook, Twitter and Tiktok leaders to intervene.
The state police officer Michigan, among law enforcement agencies responded to the post, said in a statement on Thursday it was unaware of credible threats.
