Ireland and the host of the United States agreed to cancel the international one-day series (ODI) between the two parties after the tourist staff members were tested positive for Covid-19, the two boards were announced on Tuesday.
Both teams have played the twenty -20 series which ended 1-1 while the ODI series in Florida was disturbed by the Coronavirus case was first detected among US forces and referees.
“While all the players in the two play teams have returned negative Covid results overnight, two members of the Irish support staff have been tested positively, as well as several partners of players, producing two Irish players who are considered ‘close contacts’,” the two boards said in a statement.
“Therefore, the risks and concerns about further deployment means that the two conscious councils have agreed to cancel the remaining two scheduled matches.” Ireland’s visit was the first time the United States has held a complete member of the Council of Cricket International (ICC).
Ireland is scheduled to go around the Caribbean to face West Indies in three ODI and one T20i in January.
They will fly to Kingston, Jamaica on Friday but the two positively tested members will complete their isolation in Florida.
“From a broader perspective, consideration must be given to the current series and the second leg of our tour,” said High Performance Director Cricket Ireland Richard Holdsworth.
“We must pay attention to travel requirements to enter Jamaica and meet Cricket West Hindies Protocols.”
