Vadodara: As many as 51 close and secondary contacts of the elderly pair found infected with the Omicron Covid-19 variant has been identified by Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC).
Samples of eight close contacts have been sent for genome sequencing, VMC official said.
They say that the couple has no symptoms when they are tested.
The duo has undergone a test only on the advice of several relatives four days after they arrive from Zambia.
The couple is not from a ‘risky’ country and is under self-observation.
It has undergone a test before leaving Zambia and has been tested negatively for Covid-19.
The source said that of 51 couples contacts, the eight samples were close to the sequencing genome without waiting for the positive results of Covid-19 to save time.
The couple had been treated at a private hospital in the city of Vadodara.
Duo did not have large symptoms until Saturday when one of them complained of headaches and others experienced a mild fever and sore throat.
On Saturday, 15 fresh Covid-19 cases were reported in the city and vadodara district.
All of these cases except one from the city.
Twelve patients were sent home left 109 active cases.
None of the patients were critical, but four in oxygen support.
