Vadodara: From this independence day, Barodian will experience the freedom from the growling traffic and enjoy the beauty of the oldest and historic sursagar – the city in the city.
Police Department and Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) have been holding hands to introduce the concept of reclamation of public spaces, perhaps for the first time in Gujarat.
The whole road around Lake Sursagar will be provided for pedestrians from the night of August 15.
“There are no vehicles that will be allowed on the road in circling Lake Sursagar every night from this independence day.
Walking will remain closed every day most likely from 8pm to arrive late at night.
We will immediately issue a notice about it.
Alternative routes will also be given to the movement of the vehicle, “Shamsher Singh said, the city police commissioner.
Only pedestrians will be permitted throughout the stretch.
“People will be able to take a walk around the lake, hang out with friends and family and children can also play without worrying about traffic.
It will be a zone without a vehicle that is free of noise or air pollution,” said Singh to Toi , Singh discussed the plan with the Mayor of Keyur Rokadia a few days ago and he also liked the idea and proposed Lake Sursagar as an ideal place.
The Civic body will work on plans and allow food stalls to be arranged in stretches.
“The idea is to reclaim the public space and give people a place to hang out in peace.
Vadodara is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the state and people here deserve good public space,” Singh added.
Stretching around Lake Sursagar is decorated with historical buildings such as Nyay Mandir and the Faculty of Performing Arts built by Maharaja Ijirao Gaekwad III.
Idols that towered from the god Shiva in the middle of the lake add to the beauty of the place.
Singh said that they would work to create more public spaces in various regions in the city.
