Jammu: Vaishno Devi Temple Board suspended Yatra (pilgrimage) to the popular cave temple located in the Tributa Hills Reasa Regency on Wednesday night due to bad weather.
“Because of continuous rain from Tuesday, pilgrimage to the cave temple was suspended on Wednesday 7 nights from Katra Base Camp,” said a temple board official, adding that around 19,000 pilgrims had left the base camp until the end of Wednesday to the end.
“Because the landslides triggered by rain, Yatra was diverted from the new lane to the traditional route,” the official said.
Car service batteries are also suspended considering rock shooting and landslides on a new route.
“The dense fog in the hills of Tribua forced the authorities to suspend the helicopter service from Katra to Sanjichhat,” he added.
Vaishno Devi Temple is located at an altitude of 5,200ft above sea level and attracts almost one million worshipers every year.
Because of the hearts of pilgrims who had arrived at the temple to mark the beginning of the new year, as many as 12 people died while 15 others were injured in the raid.
The probe into the tragedy is ongoing.
