Vadodara: Two Women Shuttlers from the city of Vadodara will be part of the national contingent for the world senior badminton championship which will be held in Spain next month.
The cover will compete in the 50-plus age category.
Women’s shuttlers – Jahanvi Adhikary and Dr.
Sharmila Verma – from the city will participate in international events for the first time.
Age seems to have no bar for the duo that competes hard at the stage when most will be happy to do their morning road routines.
The tournament to be held in Huelva, Spain, will be a world championship precursor to be held in December.
The tournament for seniors is divided into nine different age groups for players who are at least 35 years old.
The choice was thanks to the bronze medal that they won in the Badminton badminton ranking tournament held in Goa last month.
While Adhikary and Verma will play in 50-plus women’s doubles.
Adhikary will also work with Mitesh Mehta from a letter on a mixed double event in the same age group.
“It feels very proud to represent the country at the international level.
We will play in the same venue where top players including those from India will appear after a few days,” Adhikary said, a coach of a fitness communication.
Verma is a dentist who has surrendered badminton after school for more than 27 years until he returned to playing about a decade ago.
He is also a diligent golfer.
“I’m very happy.
We have worked very hard for this,” he said.
Like professionals, this duo has coaches who train them regularly and fitness experts.
Anand Keneth trained them even when Sanjib Hazarika and Hitesh Surve made sure they remained fit.
Duo has now played together for eight years, but this will be their first tournament abroad.
